Work advances on the new maternity ward at Chiri Health Center (Ethiopia)

The maternal and child health project in Decha Woreda takes a key step towards reducing deaths among mothers and babies.

Improvement work at Chiri Health Center, in the rural area of Decha Woreda (Ethiopia), is progressing well. The centre, run by the Missionary Sisters of the Infant Jesus, is a healthcare reference point for a population of 24,000 in one of the most isolated areas of the country.

The work aims to reduce maternal and infant mortality in an area where the main causes of death are preventable: births without medical assistance, a lack of antenatal check-ups and a shortage of health facilities. Improving the spaces where pregnant women and newborns are cared for is essential to saving lives.

The project is funded by the Parliament of Andalusia and delivered with local partner MEJIF. In future updates we will share how the work is progressing and its impact on the community.
