Strengthening health security in the rural communities of Decha Woreda

Development cooperation · Medical equipment and the donation of an off-road ambulance in the Kafa zone

Project summary

Decha woreda is one of the largest in the Kafa zone: it brings together 58 communities in a mountainous area where the rainy season lasts for months and is followed by three months of severe drought. It is home to the “Chiri Health Center” maternal and child health centre, run by the Eucharistic Missionary Sisters and supported by Admundi.

Areas of work

  • Supplies and purchase of medical equipment for the maternal and child health centre.
  • Donation of a Toyota 4×4 ambulance, funded by crowdfunding among our members, for the emergency transport of pregnant women and children.

Results

  • 1,500 people reached across 20 communities.
  • Chiri Health Center equipped for maternal and child care.
  • Emergency transport secured across steep terrain where rain used to make it impossible to reach the health centre and the nearest hospital.
