Installing irrigation systems and developing women’s farming cooperatives

Development cooperation · Food sovereignty in the rural communities of Goubi

Project summary

The project secures food sovereignty for the rural communities of Goubi by combining irrigation infrastructure with the creation and strengthening of women-led farming cooperatives that can sustain themselves and generate self-employment.

Areas of work

  • Irrigation infrastructure: construction of 7 wells with elevated tanks and a solar-powered extraction pump, plus drip irrigation equipment across 3.5 hectares of land owned by the women’s farming cooperatives.
  • Women’s cooperatives: training in farming, poultry rearing and management, and EPC (Savings for Change).
  • Reducing workload: collaborative building of improved cooking stoves in at least 75% of members’ homes, and provision of tools and equipment to the 14 cooperatives.
  • Preventing malnutrition: awareness-raising for at least 1,000 people on the early detection of anaemia and child malnutrition, workshops for the teachers and management teams of the 7 primary schools, and the creation of a multidisciplinary team drawn from the cooperatives, the schools and the health centre.
  • Visibility: production of a DVD covering the project’s activities, results and objectives.
